Governor Sisolak Delivers Remarks at Election Night

After county officials announced ballots that were dropped off today in the state’s two most populous counties will not be counted tonight and following the closure of polls in Nevada, Governor Sisolak addressed the crowd at Democrats’ election night gathering:

Read Governor Sisolak’s remarks as prepared for delivery below:

Good evening, Nevada!

Well, we knew it was going to be a close election… and that’s exactly what we got!! Hang in there everybody. Be patient. We need to make sure every single vote is counted… and when that job is done, I believe we’re going to win this thing!

But right now I want to thank Nevada voters for doing your part, making your voice heard, and being a part of our democracy. It’s so important, now more than ever.

And thank you all for being here tonight and for doing everything you can to support Democrats in Nevada, from door knocking to phone banking, to donating.. You’ve had our backs every step of the way.

And thank you to our Democrats on the ballot who are inspiring leaders – like Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, Representatives Susie Lee, Dina Titus, Steven Horsford, LG Lisa Cano Burkhead, AG Ford, future Secretary of State Cicsco Aguilar, Treasurer Zach Conine, future Controller Ellen Spiegel, and our incredibly talented Senate and Assembly candidates.

As I said, right now our race is too close to call. The counting could go on all night or even longer as all the ballots from election day voting and all the mail ballots are tabulated.  In fact, ballots that are postmarked today are allowed to be counted.   So we need to be patient and make sure that everyone’s voice is heard.

As I’ve always said, the Battle Born State is a Battleground State and we knew this would go down to the wire.

But I truly believe when we have a final count, the votes will be on our side and I’ll be going back to Carson City where I’ll fight my heart out for you.

Finally, I want to thank our election workers who’ve spent day after day either helping Nevadans cast their ballots in person or spending hours processing and counting thousands of mail ballots. Thank you.

And to all of you here tonight…thanks for being here… but now it’s time to go home… get some sleep… let the count continue… And we’ll be celebrating soon enough!

God bless Nevada!
